The GRAPHICS & ELEGANCE collection embraces urban elegance, yet comes along with understatement. Only at second glance, but then all the more clearly, the fabrics disclose their technical refinement and high-quality details. “We wanted to create a collection exuding elegance and generosity, while taking up our product range’s classic fabrics,” says Sibylle Aeberhard, who is the product manager and also shaped the textiles as a designer.
THE FABRICS CAN BE PERFECTLY COMBINED WITH EACH OTHER THANKS TO THE COLLECTION’S HARMONIOUS COLOURFULNESS.
The result? Silk, taffeta and jacquard fabrics, adding a contemporary urban elegance to your home. So urbanity is another theme that appears throughout the collection. Street style with its bold patterns was a powerful inspiration. Graphically interpreted elements, such as fragmentally arranged circles or hand-written letters can be found, for instance, on the PAINT jacquard fabric or the LETTERA devoré.
The best example of this urbanity and one of the designer’s favourites is the STORIES Toile de Jouy fabric. A high-rise building, a climbing frame and children with school bags join a typically rural scene with ducks, birds, dragonflies and courting couples. This portion of extravagance helps to lend the classic French pattern an unusual but highly topical look. Sometimes you just have to take certain risks to create something new.
URBAN MOTIFS IRONICALLY BREAK CLASSIC FRENCH TOILE DE JOUY SUBJECTS.
The RASHMI PALACE silk fabric, reminiscent of craftwork, shows how tradition and modernity can interact. Naturally, this one comes with a twist, too: 3D pixel aesthetics distort the Middle Eastern palmette motif, thus reconnecting with laid-back street style. Skilfully and subtly created contrasts ensure effective variety and reinforce the individual components’ impact.
So Je ne sais quoi can be found throughout the GRAPHICS & ELEGANCE fabrics. But what does this term mean for Sibylle Aeberhard herself? “To me, Je ne sais quoi has a lot to do with aesthetics. Looking at and touching something beautiful also touches me. It fascinates me and carries me away for a moment.”
Sibylle Aeberhard has been working for Création Baumann in a creative capacity since 2004. The product manager & designer discovered fabric at an early age: as a child, she already sewed clothes for her dolls and for herself. Since fashion is too short-lived in her opinion, she was thrilled more and more by the basic textile element. What Sibylle Aeberhard – who graduated from the Zurich textile specialist class and was influenced by her mentor, Bärbel Birkelbach – likes about her job is the mix of handicraft, creative design and technical know-how.
